Seven headed to the Beast this weekend

The Beast of the Easton, in Newark, Delaware, is known as one of the toughest, if not the toughest individual tournament in the country. Seven District One teams are scheduled to compete in this tournament, held at the University of Delaware’s Bob Carpenter Center, beginning on Saturday morning around 8:30am, with the Finals scheduled to begin Sunday at 3:15pm.

There are 87 teams, from 14 different states, competing in this tournament. National powerhouse Blair Academy (NJ) Great Bridge (VA), Northampton (PA), Central Dauphin (PA), Wyoming Seminary (PA) and Delaware’s own Caesar Rodney are among the National elite competition.

From our own District that are competing in this very tough tournament are: Boyertown, North Penn, Oxford Area, Penncrest, Pennridge, Quakertown and Springfield-Delco.

Escape the Rock announces tournament field

The Escape the Rock wrestling tournament held at Council Rock South High School in Holland, PA, has announced its tournament field, for Jan. 9-10, 2009. The 24-team, individual competition, is set to begin at 3pm Friday. The Finals are scheduled to begin at 5:30pm Saturday, Jan. 10.

Newcomers to the ETR tournament are Central Mountain, out of District 6; and Phillipsburg (New Jersey). Central Mountain was the 2008 PA state tournament runner-up and 3rd place finisher at the State Dual Meet tournament. Phillipsburg (NJ) placed in the Top 4 at the New Jersey State Duals.

There will also be LIVE text updates (provided by the NHSCA Sports Network) throughout the tournament and an Audio broadcast of the Finals.
